Earn digital badges from the OLC Institute for Professional Development

OLC Institute Badges
The OLC Institute for Professional Development provides participants with the opportunity to earn various digital badges for completing specific workshops in our catalog of offerings. Earning these badges allows you to showcase newly earned skills and knowledge.
Please note that you must complete ALL workshops (unless otherwise noted) listed under the specific badge to be eligible, and complete them within one calendar year. Badges are not issued for individual workshops. Note that badges are not being issued for programs started prior to either 2018 or 2019, depending on the badge (the specific year is listed below each badge).
Workshops
Accessibility Badge
- Must register and successfully complete at least 4 of the 6 of the following workshops:
- Online Teaching Essentials: ADA & Digital Accessibility (instructor-led OR self-paced version)
- Accessible Course Design Using WCAG
- Practical Applications for Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Digital Accessibility: Developing a Strategic Plan
- Reframing Disability: Language, Media, and Universal Design
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in Online Learning (instructor-led OR self-paced version)
- Note that the Accessibility badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2018.
Advanced Instructional Designer (Badge)*
*Please note that this badge will be retired by the end of 2023, and will be replaced by a new Advanced Instructional Designer Certificate program. No new badges will be issued after 2023 for this current badge.
- Must register and successfully complete ALL of the following courses:
- Project Management for Instructional Designers
- Applying the Neuro, Cognitive, and Learning Sciences to Instructional Design
- Data Stories: An Introduction to Data Visualization
- Getting Started with Research
- Note that the Advanced Instructional Designer badge is not being issued for courses started prior to 2019.
- Note that workshop passes are NOT applicable to any of the above workshops.
Copyright Compliance & Fair Use Badge
- Must register and successfully complete ALL of the following workshops:
- Copyright & Fair Use, Part 1: Fundamentals
- Copyright & Fair Use, Part 2: From Court Decisions to “Best Practices”
- Note that the Copyright Compliance & Fair Use badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2018.
Faculty Foundations Badge
- Must register and successfully complete ALL of the following workshops:
- Supporting Online Adjunct Faculty
- Evaluating Online Faculty
- Managing Workload and Reducing Burnout
- Note that the Faculty Foundations badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2019.
Gamification Badge
- Must register and successfully complete ALL of the following workshops:
- Gamification Principles and Strategies
- Game-Based Learning
- Note that the Gamification badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2019.
Neuro, Cognitive and Learning Sciences Badge
- Must register and successfully complete ALL of the following workshops:
- Neuro, Cognitive and Learning Sciences, Part 1: Bringing Theory to Practice
- Neuro, Cognitive and Learning Sciences, Part 2: Applying Theory to Practice
- Note that the Neuro, Cognitive, and Learning Sciences badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2019.
Online Teaching Essentials Badge
- Must register and successfully complete ALL of the following workshops:
- Online Teaching Essentials 1: Getting Started
- Online Teaching Essentials 2: Converting Your Course
- Online Teaching Essentials 3: Course Design Basics
- Note that the New to Online: Essentials badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2018.
Open Educational Resources (OER) Badge
- Must register and successfully complete ALL of the following workshops:
- OER, Part 1: Exploring Open Educational Resources
- OER, Part 2: Implementing Open Educational Resources
- Note that the OER badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2019.
OSCQR Badge
- Must register and successfully complete the following workshop:
- Course Quality Review (OSCQR)
- Note that the OSCQR badge is not being issued for workshops started prior to 2018.
- Note that workshops passes are NOT applicable for the above workshop.
Certificate Programs
Advanced Online Teaching Certificate (AOTC) Program Badge
- Participants earn a badge for this program once they register and successfully complete the 12-week Advanced Online Teaching Certificate program course.
- Note that the AOTC badge is not being issued for any program that started prior to 2018.
Instructional Designer Certificate Program Badge
- Must register and successfully complete all of the 4 courses in the ID Certificate Program, which include:
- ID1: Professional Foundations: Researching, Collaborating, and Networking
- ID2: Helping Faculty with New Course Development
- ID3: Curating and Evaluating Resources for Faculty
- ID4: Course Quality Review
- Note that the Instructional Designer Certificate Program badge is not being issued for any program that started prior to 2018.
Online Teaching Certificate (OTC) Program
- There are two badges available for this program:
- Online Teaching Certificate Foundation Course Badge (earned when the participant successfully completes the 10-week foundation course)
- Online Teaching Certificate Program Badge (earned when the participant successfully completes the entire Online Teaching Certificate Program – Foundation plus 3 Workshops)
- Note that the OTC badges are not being issued for any program that started prior to 2018.
Mastery Series
- A badge is available for EACH Mastery Series (3 available badges), providing that the participant has successfully completed the offering (i.e., submitted each required assignment and earned a 90% or higher as final course score). This includes:
- Instructional Design Mastery Series
- Online Science Labs Mastery Series
- Online Nursing Mastery Series
- Please note that badges will not be issued for any Mastery Series started prior to 2018.
