Extended Abstract

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Contrast the Design Sprint content and structure with your existing (or planned) online teaching certificate or instructional design services.

  • Explore creative opportunities in your institution to increase capacity for course design

Description:

Now more than ever, traditional institutions of higher education are embracing the value of instructional design services, but when capacity is limited how can centers provide quality support at scale?  Join staff from the Teaching & Learning Transformation Center from the University of Maryland College Park, to hear about our Design Sprints which blend professional development for instructors with instructional design services. Through a mixture of asynchronous materials, live webinars and individualized consultations - our team of two partnered with staff across campus to provide course design support for over 500 instructors, impacting over 22,000 student registrations.

In this reflective and interactive session, participants will examine the content included in our program and  contrast it with your plans for, or existing, online teaching certificate or instructional design services. Do you provide LMS templates, coach on objectives and assessments as well as guide the development of an equitable and inclusive learning climate? Are there program or discipline-specific topics you would need to cover in your context? Are there materials we may already have that would be helpful?

We will share how we expanded our capacity by building relationships across campus and will help you explore creative opportunities you might consider to increase support. Are there instructional technologists, assessment experts, students or fledgling instructional designers who might apprentice in a structured experience and provide support to others? We will share how we incorporated all of these communities.

Come join in the conversation about scalable instructional design work as it merges with faculty development and community partnerships.
